BOYD SENIOR LEAGUE 2019 Report By Jackie Craig
This year EK&H progressed to the semi-finals
of the Boyd Senior League where they played Wishaw.
East Kilbride were represented by
Willie Craig (lead/skip), Bill Gibson (second),
Willie Dykes (third) and Jackie Craig (fourth).
This game was close with lots of good shots
played by both teams.
Our skip got the hang of the ice
and got us drawing around guards,
hitting and we even managed to steal some ends
coming out in the lead with a score of 6-2.
We progressed to the final and were to play Dippool
who managed to beat us by 2 shots
in the section game prior to the final.
Because they had previously beaten us
we knew it would not be an easy game.
We were up 10-1 after 5 ends
and I thought our skip had it nailed.
In ends 6 and 7 we managed to lose 2 fours (shocking).
Going in to the final end we were 10-9 up
and again Dippool built a head.
When it came to me playing my last stone
we were lying 4 against
so I had to get to the four foot to win the game.
With a lot of shouting and sweeping my stone got there
and EK&H won the game 11-9.
A lesson from this is
when you are so far in front keep the head clear!!!
Skip Willie has just entered the room
and would like to add this comment….
"You can only skip the team you have
and although they were good at times
other times they failed miserably
to play the shots asked of them."
My finishing comment is
the skip has ultimate responsibility
and shouldn’t blame his team!
As a result Lockhart presented Willie
with a book of curling tactics to help improve his game.
On a serious note this is one of the rare times
EH&H has won this competition and it was an honour
to win and a great achievement for us on behalf of the club.
Finally I would like to thank Boyd and Co
for their generous sponsorship of this competition,
it is greatly appreciated by all who play in it.
