Eighteen of our curling club members braved the dark clouds and rain
to make their way to Lasswade for the annual golf outing on the Kings Acre course.
Spirits were lifted on arrival when they found that Eric(the organizer)
had arranged for the sun to be shining with a stiff wind blowing to keep the rain away.
The customary refreshments with our light lunch were eagerly taken
whilst the handicaps were debated and teams drawn.

As we made our way to the putting green, George Brown,
was still complaining at having to play off the BIG boys tees.

Alex Paris, injured from a bike accident
and in his own words, "a hacker", was in the first team.
As he let rip with his first drive, he virtually fell of the tee
doing more damage to his already dickey leg
much to the consternation of his team who wondered,
would he complete the 1st hole never mind the next 17.
To his credit he did, and once the swelling goes down
I am sure he will reflect on a great day out.

It was nice to see some of our older statesmen taking part;
I had the privilege of playing in the same team as "Gentleman John Strang",
who even when he left his 20th putt of the day short,
could only utter,

"Jings I've done it again".

I believe the language may have been more colourful in the winning team of,
Willie Dykes, George Strang Jr and James Baird.
Very few bad words from James of course,
who was having in his words, "the best round ever".
James also managed to hit the ball further than anyone else,
picking up the men's longest drive prize.

For the ladies it was Colette who was the longest hitter
with Margaret Brown the most accurate taking the mixed nearest the pin prize.

"Longest hitter Colette and a senior admirer".

During the round it was good to see members taking full advantage
of the course's wide expanses, if not the fairways.

George Strang managed to hit the 18th tee
with his drive at the 13th?!
It would probably have won the longest drive
had it been on the 12th hole and on the fairway.

As the round drew to a close and we hauled ourselves up the 17th
(with a few stops for breath) and many balls lighter,
the sun was still high in the sky.
A quick rub down, (longer for the ladies) and it was tea time.
This was gratefully scoffed with Archie Mc and Jim D even getting bread
and butter to go with their mince and tatties (all be it not plain bread).

With the scores counted and the results as above
President George presented the prizes,
finishing with a big thanks to Eric for his usual efficient organization of the event
and the hope that it will be same again next year.
It is a good fun day out for golfers of all levels
so please come along and enjoy it next time.
Willie King.
Many thanks Willie, great report and super photos.
