The Henderson Bishop Trophy 2007/08
After a very exciting final in October at Hamilton, against Marion McDonald,
Isobel Waddell, Margaret Robertson and Theresa Hill, the East Kilbride & Haremyres team of
Margaret Richardson, Marion Craig, Alison Taylor and Catherine Raeburn
won the challenge of representing Lanarkshire Ice Rink at the finals of the H.B. Trophy.
The finals this year were held at the Atholl Curling Rink at Pitlochry at the end of February 2008,
and due to a rink having to pull out Marion McDonald and her team also joined us at the finals.
In our section was Borders, Forest Hills, Murrayfield 2 and Perth, we dropped the last game
against Murrayfield , but we had enough points to go through to the H.B. Semi Finals.
The draw took place at the final dinner on the Wednesday night,
with the Lanarkshire 2 team- Marion McDonald playing Stranraer - Gail Munro ,
and Lanarkshire 1- Margaret Richardson playing Murrayfield 1 - Susan Kesley.
Early to bed for team Richardson, but the Craig /Raeburn duo had a slight problem
with their room door lock and after some work with an electric screwdriver and being assured
that they would be quite safe! A chair was put behind the door and off to bed they went,
with the sound of room parties and laughter echoing round the hotel.
The Semi Final against Susan Kesley was tight to start with
and then we gradually gained the upper hand and finally managed to win.
The game between Gail Munro and Marion McDonald seemed to swing
from Marion having the upper hand to finally Gail winning.
The Final- Stranraer against Lanarkshire 1,
I would like to say it was a tight game, but unfortunately Team Richardson have played better,
and Gail on the back of just winning the Scottish was taking no prisoners,
so we were second and won the Silver Medal and the Pewter Plate,
although we were disappointed that we had not played better in the final,
I think we were all delighted to win the Silver medals.
I hope one day we might get another chance to play in the finals of the Henderson Bishop Trophy.
I would also like to thank Atholl Curling club for making us all so welcome,
for all their fund raising, and the entertainment they provided at the dinner.
They all worked very hard to make the Henderson Bishop a success.
